Why is this government hell bent on destroying common sense in Britain?

Is it me or has this government made Britain so scared of itself and how it appears to other nations that any ounce of sense and self identity has been completely eradicated? I am not a racist/nationalist or any other 'ist' to my knowledge, but it seems ridiculous the amount of time/money/legislation this government wastes tring to look 'right'. The shooting of de Menezes was tragic, in that an innocent died. However, London had just been bombed, it was on high alert for another, and this gent sees fit to run away from armed police who asked him to stop. And then his family wondered why he had been shot. Would they have been so upset if his backpack had contained explosives. Of course the police have no Xray gles so they wouldn't know, and so did what they thought necessary to protect London. And now they're on trial for the same. Would this happen anywhere else? There are many other examples, eg, human rights act interpretation on which even france think we're stupid!!! Is it me?
