Well you could, but rather than cover real wood, have it really well-cleaned, and oiled possibly, to make it gleam, and buy new handles - can make a terrific difference. I replaced antique-looking handles in my wood kitchen with brushed-metal coloured ones, they look great. Home Depot has lots of handles and drawer pulls.
