What to do after a deer tick bite?

Had a fam party today, came home tonight and my older son (10), noticed a bump on the back of his head near his hairline. sure enough, after running around outside all day, he had a tick! After freaking out for a few seconds, my wife and I managed to drown it in ointment and get it out, better than the lit cig to back of the head like I had to sit thru when I was young... Although it was hard to get out, I think we got it right after it went in? It looked like it was trying to dig in when I first saw it, but it took us a good 1/2 hr to get the tick actually out. My question is, is there a place that they test these lil blood suckers for lyme and are there symptoms to look for in the next few days?? It was definatly a deer tick cuz I google imaged ticks and it was same color and shape of a deer tick. Orangish body, blackish round spot up near head...
