Any recommendations for romantic American Clic Literature?

I'm going to have to do a research project, and I didn't like the list she gave me. So I was wondering if anyone had any books by American authors that were romantic, and intriguing. Also it needs to have some sort of literary merit. This is for an Honors English cl. So please, any suggestion would be helpful. If you could include a little summary, or a link to the synopsis, it would be great! Thank you in advance!
